Penmaenmawr Sailing Club held their annual Open Day on Saturday the 1st July. He club opened its door to non-members and thrill seekers of all ages to experience the thrill of sailing.
The day was opened by the mayor of Penmaenmawr, Cllr Myfanwy Baines, Club Commodore Gerry Frobisher and Club President Bernard Carter by firing the cannon.
Commodore, Gerry Frobisher, said “We enjoyed a full day of sailing with water and beach based fun for all the family. Club members provided supervised sailing and refreshments throughout the day. Around a hundred members and non-members some from as far as Penmachno took part or just watched the activities during the day with volunteers from Conwy RNLI who manned their stall. The warm and breezy weather was a bonus and the sea conditions really made the day”.
The sailing club launched eight different craft including Picos, a Wayfarer and a catamaran as well as offering patrol boat rides.
A big thank you from the Commodore; to everyone who helped out, Sue and Hilary on the food, Mike and Doug on beach and patrol boats, junior section a support sailors, Bernard registration, the RNLI stall, and Ed, our new member, ex Plas Menai Chief Instructor for taking lots of people out in Doug’s Wayfarer in a safe and competent
manner. (and anyone I might have forgotten).
