Great sailing in North Wales since 1962

PSC Golden Jubilee – 2012

Next year it’s the Golden Jubilee, PSC’s 50th Anniversary Year.
Club Fund-raisers & Development Plans will be announced this year.

The Story so far:

The idea of a Penmaenmawr’s own sailing
club was first mooted by Samuel Purcocks
(then licensee of The Alexandra Hotel) back
in October 1960. After much planning and
hard work, a team of volunteers, ably led
by Sam Purcocks finally erected the first
building, which was made of timber, some
50 metres from the present clubhouse in
the Summer of 1962, so 2012 is our 50th!
Throughout the 50 year history many members
and volunteers have work tirelessly to
develop the club into the fantastic facility
that you see today. Some notable people
and events include Brian Butterworth during
years 1981 to 1989 and after hundreds
of letters and countless meetings, we were
able to have built a substantial single story
building of block work during the construction
of the A55. A decade later a second
storey was added giving a huge boost to
the facilities, together with 12 new sailing
dinghies and much new equipment.
This was made possible by the hard work
and enthusiasm of Glenn Williams and his
team of club members. More recently the
Balcony was completed after just 2 years
of fund-raising and construction.
So many people (too many to list here),
over the years have helped the club in so
many ways, that it is recommended to look
at the Club’s Documented History, so well
encapsulated in Bernard Carter’s fascinating
scrapbook, available for all to see in the
Clubhouse.
It is hoped that PSC will continue to have
such enthusiastic and dedicated members
to further the aims of the club.
