In support of the third annual Royal Yachting Association’s (RYA) national “Push the Boat Out” event, which have become a regular and successful legacy of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, Penmaenmawr Sailing Club held a day of water-based fun for all the family on Saturday the 17th of May 2014, and invited non-sailors and their families to join members to enjoy supervised sailing and fun on the water. The event was opened by the Club Commodore Gerry Frobisher, Sailing Captain Mark Knight, and Vice President Bernard Carter by firing the canon. (see picture)
Club Commodore, Gerry Frobisher, said “We enjoyed a wonderful day of sailing and water based fun. We had around a hundred members and non-members take part throughout the day. The warm and sunny weather was a bonus and the excellent wind, although at time quite challenging, really made the day. We were able to launch a fleet of eight craft including Picos and Lasers, as well as offering banana boat and safety boat rides. To make the day even more fun we had members Conwy Sea Rowing Club who offered rowing a long boat and Green Dragon Activities who offered stand-up paddle boards”.
Club Vice President and Race Officer, Bernard Carter, said “There was a raffle and refreshments provided all day and some money was raised by volunteers who manned the RNLI stall. The day was rounded off with an evening barbecue get together”.
