Members of Penmaenmawr Sailing Club, new slipway project workers and dignitaries attended the official opening of the newly refurbished slipway at Penmaenmawr. The vital facility on the Penmaenmawr seafront has been refurbished.
The newly refurbished slipway at Penmaenmawr has officially opened. The £96,000 project to refurbish the slipway started in February this year and was completed in April. The project received funding from Visit Wales’ Green Sea programme, European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and Conwy County Borough Council.
The ribbon cutting ceremony held 10th May was attended by members of Penmaenmawr Sailing Club, Councillors of Conwy County Borough Council and project officers that helped to coordinate the delivery of the project.
The Tourism Development Officer with Conwy borough Council, Janet Johnson said “The extended slipway with its safe, smooth approach onto the beach will improve access for families, children and disabled visitors, and encourage more people to enjoy the delights of Penmaenmawr’s coastline”
Club Commodore, Gerry Frobisher said “I must thank everyone involved in the refurbishment of the slipway. The Sailing Club uses the slipway on a regular basis for our youth training programme as well as our club and open races throughout the year. The Club Members, visiting sailors and other water sport enthusiasts will benefit from the refurbishment and I’m sure the investment will encourage more people, particularly beginners to try water sports in this beautiful area. This is a wonderful birthday present as Penmaenmawr Sailing Club is celebrating its 50th Anniversary on the 9th of June with a big Open Day for none sailors to come and experience the thrill of sailing”.
The Mayor of Penmaenmawr, Cllr Vivienne Mooney, said “As a community we were asked by the Destination Conwy Action Plan what would make a difference in our area. The refurbishment of the crumbling slipway at Penmaenmawr received a great deal of support. The new slipway will make a great difference to Penmaenmawr as a whole”.
