Fun in the Sun, Sailing Open day

Penmaenmawr Sailing Club held their annual Open Day on Saturday the 1st July. He club opened its door to non-members and thrill seekers of all ages to experience the thrill of sailing.

The day was opened by the mayor of Penmaenmawr, Cllr Myfanwy Baines, Club Commodore Gerry Frobisher and Club President Bernard Carter by firing the cannon.

Commodore, Gerry Frobisher, said “We enjoyed a full day of sailing with water and beach based fun for all the family. Club members provided supervised sailing and refreshments throughout the day. Around a hundred members and non-members some from as far as Penmachno took part or just watched the activities during the day with volunteers from Conwy RNLI who manned their stall. The warm and breezy weather was a bonus and the sea conditions really made the day”.

The sailing club launched eight different craft including Picos, a Wayfarer and a catamaran as well as offering patrol boat rides.

A big thank you from the Commodore; to everyone who helped out, Sue and Hilary on the food, Mike and Doug on beach and patrol boats, junior section a support sailors, Bernard registration, the RNLI stall, and Ed, our new member, ex Plas Menai Chief Instructor for taking lots of people out in Doug’s Wayfarer in a safe and competent
manner. (and anyone I might have forgotten).

Four Perfomance yachts arrived 21st June

Five others arrived 22nd June

Victoria Conwy arrived late in the afternoon and safe, exhausted and full of the Three Peaks Spirit.

Sailing Club Visit

Twenty eight year 6 pupils and three teachers from Ysgol Pencae, Penmaenmawr visited Penmaenmawr Sailing Club on Friday the 30th June. Club Commodore, Gerry Frobisher said “The visitors were given a tour of the Clubs facilities by members and the Junior Sailors showed them how to rig a Pico. They were shown the safety boats and got to use the radios as well as learn some land rules and various knots. The visit ended with the cannon being fired by one lucky pupil.

Club Series – Race One

Penmaenmawr Sailing Club commenced their season long “Series” of Club races with the first race taking place on Sunday the 21st of May. Six craft with 7 sailors took part in the race around a course in the bay off Penmaenmawr in a challenging brisk wind and a heavy swell.
1st Ieuan Williams – Laser R
2nd Phil Mack – Dart 15
3rd Dai Moss – Topper
4th Danny Blair – Topper
5th Arty Moss and James Blair – Pico


Patrol Boat was manned by Mike Moss, and the Race Officers were Hilary Moss and Bernard Carter.
