The club runs coaching programmes, taking juniors from learning to sail up to club racing. This year, more emphasis is being placed on racing, in order to get the new junior racing series underway. The coaching sessions are held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm.
The training this year will consist of smaller groups of no more than 10 juniors, each running over over a period of approximately six weeks, after which, participants can move on to the racing series to improve their skills. Most people start arriving at about 6:30pm in order to get the boats ready. Additional race coaching sessions and races will be held on Sundays throughout the season.
The coaching packages are priced to cover the cost of the training materials, log books and maintenance costs of the boats. All funds that are raised by the training and many of the social fund raising events are ploughed back into the training programmes. Dedicated to the Youth Coaching programme are 6 Laser Picos, 6 Toppers, 6 Laser Radials. The club has one Sailing Instructor and 7 RYA safety boat drivers to support the coaching sessions and also has a number of mentors, who are experienced sailors, to provide additional coaching for the juniors during evening and weekend sailing.
The North Wales Club Youth Racing Circuit (CYRC) series consists of five races, normally on a Saturday, spread over the season at different clubs in the area. New participants get excellent on the water coaching and it is an excellent opportunity to meet, and make new friends, both for parents and children. The club Toppers are available for juniors to use. We can either take the trailer, or the Toppers are easily carried on a car roof rack.
The club encourages the involvement of its youth in its running and has a junior Captain and committee. If you wish to become involved please contact the club.
All coaches and mentors are volunteers, and as such, we would ask that a parent / guardian or one of their nominated representatives of each child are to remain at the club during training session, There are lots of tasks that can be undertaken ashore; assisting the coaches and the children. Training can be provided for volunteers willing to help out, even if it is making tea and coffee. All juniors must be members of the club and can be included under a family membership. If you have family membership you can also use the brilliant club facilities, including the tremendous balcony, at any time.
The club has a U18 GOLD CUP series with practice sessions on a Tuesday evening.
